Add Live Chat To Your Squarespace Site

Did you know you can add a Live Chat feature to your Squarespace website, without a third party app for FREE? I didn’t until recently to be perfectly honest! And it was SO easy to add one to a clients website that I thought I would share with you!

Facebook Messenger

Yep! This free method works with Facebook. Any messages you get through your website will go directly to your Facebook Messenger. This is pretty handy, because most of us already have this on our phones, so you won’t miss a message! If you already have a Facebook business account - perfect! If not you’ll need to set one up, so we can access the advanced messaging settings.

Step 1. Connecting Facebook

First you wanna log into your Facebook account. In the top right corner go to Settings > Advanced Messaging and then navigate to where it says Whitelisted Domains.

In here we’re going to paste in your website URL and also you Squarespace Site URL. So my website URL is https://lucycaddey.com/ but my Squarespace Site URL might be completely random unless we’ve specifically changed it in our settings. You can find your Squarespace Site URL following these instructions here. Once you’ve find it just copy that and keep of the “config” part so it’s just like https://lucy-caddey.squarespace.com/ Sweet! Now just hit SAVE.

Getting the code

Now we’re going to hit Messaging and scroll down to Add Messenger to your website. Click Get Started.

There aren’t too many settings you’ll need to change in here, but you can change the language, the greeting and also the colour of the chat to match your branding so just have a play around if you like! Also, just double check that your website domain is listed on the top left!

Once you’re happy with all the colours and greetings ect, all that there’s left to do in Facebook is hit Finish and then click the code on the right hand side to copy it.

We’re all finished in Facebook now! Now we can head over to Squarespace and paste in this code. In Squarespace head over to Settings > Advanced > Code Injection. We’re going to paste that code we just got from Facebook into the Footer section and hit Save. Refresh you’re page and your cute little chat window should be there! If you want to open your website in incognito mode, or on your phone to test the messaging go ahead!

Let me know if this was helpful! Such a great, WAY understated feature if you ask me! I know I’ll be suggesting it to my future clients from now on, that’s for sure!

Lucy x
